Melody Tsai
Teacher Melody graduated and received my B.A. degree in Banking and Insurance in Taiwan and had worked in the business industry for 6 years before I came to the U.S. She likes to work with children, so she began teaching young children Chinese in 2007. She has been teaching both individuals and groups as a private Chinese tutor in Sunnyvale, Mountain View, and Los Altos.
Ms. Melody believes learning a language shouldn’t be boring and stressful, especially for children. So she prefers children who are under 8 years old learning Chinese by playing, singing, listening, and speaking, which means students will have more chances to practice how to speak Chinese and not how to memorize the Chinese words from books.
YaFang Liu
Teacher Yafang is from Guangxi, China. She has been a Chinese teacher since 2003 and currently she works as an after school Chinese teacher in Palo Alto. Ms. Yafang is also a freelance non-fiction writer. Her most recent publication in Reader’s Digest is called “Ending of life in a care home”, 2/2008.
Lily Kuo
Teacher Lily was born and raised in Taiwan until the age of 12 before she came to the US. Due to the interest of her native culture, she has never stopped learning Mandarin: took Chinese literature classes in UC Santa Barbara, studied abroad in Taiwan University, and of course reading Chinese newspapers and literature continuously. She is fluent in speaking, reading, and writing both Chinese and English.
Teacher Lily wanted to be a teacher since childhood but it was not until a few years ago that she finally decided to teach. First she spent a year obtaining a teaching certificate (‘Teaching Chinese as a Heritage or Other Language’) from California State University of East Bay in Oakland in 2006. Then I began teaching adults Mandarin in companies. Last year she taught graduate students in Italy on Chinese films, literature, conversations, and helped them apply for scholarship to China: one of them had obtained full scholarship!
Teacher Lily returned to California in May 2008 and applied for StarTalk Teacher Program at UC Berkeley to enhance my teaching skills. She was one of the 20 students who were admitted with a stipend. She is currently teaching elementary school children in an after-school enrichment program and several private classes at Fun Mandarin.
Ai-Ling Hsieh
Teacher Ai-Ling has been teaching Mandarin and Chinese culture for 26 years. Most of her students come from non-Mandarin speaking families. In addition to Chinese and US descendants, some are from India, Japan, Korea, the Philippines Mexico and South America.
She has taught both traditional and simplified Chinese characters. She teaches PinYin system for pronunciation and is well versed in ZhuYin system as well. Occasionally, she hass provided training for other Chinese school teachers and has taught them how to teach PinYin system along with their ZhuYin system background. Recently she completed the Federal Government StarTalk Chinese Teachers Training Program at Berkeley. She is also one of the authors of SAT II Chinese preparation book. She has a MA degree from UC Berkeley.
In June 2005 and April 2007, she was selected by the Association of Northern California Chinese Schools to visit Mainland China to tour elementary schools, middle schools, and colleges to exchange the leading methods for teaching Mandarin and Chinese culture..
Teaching Mandarin has always been her passion. She is a highly qualified Mandarin teacher and confident that she will contribute her experience and skills to her students.
